Supporting our communities

Through funding, support and community partnerships, our goal is to ensure that all children with special needs can be active participants within their communities.

About usGET INVOLVED

inclusive playgrounds

An Inclusive Alberta

One of Variety Alberta’s initiatives is to support playground builds within Alberta and see all playgrounds – whether new or refurbished, be built with inclusive and accessible features so all children regardless of ability can play at the park with their peers.

We can assist in the development of inclusive playgrounds throughout our province that promotes dignity, understanding and  respect among all children including children with ability diverse needs.

We are offering our support to bring ideas, research and funding to assist in making sure every project maximizes the options available to give every child an equal right to play.

l

research and best practices

Bringing the most current research on play design and space to encompass the spectrum of ability diverse needs (mobility; cognitive; sensory) in an interactive space.

Collaboration and Partnerships

Bringing together community and organizational experts for additional support and resources.

Fundraising

Offering support with fundraising for each project.

Financial Management of Donations and Tax Receipts

We can solicit, receive, issue tax receipts, and manage all financial aspects of the playground including grant writing and final report writing.

Our Disability Awareness Education Program is based on the belief that barriers can be removed through education, increased awareness and creating environments of acceptance, understanding, and celebration of differences.

We know that misunderstood beliefs can be a huge barrier to acceptance and when we openly talk about people living with disabilities, how they overcome obstacles, and how we can all contribute to making the world a more inclusive place then we begin to break down stereotypes and negative perceptions that exist.

Variety Alberta runs the “Just Like You” education program to elementary schools within Alberta.

Just Like You

go baby go

For children living without disabilities, technology makes things easier. For children living with disabilities, technology makes
things possible!

Go Baby Go supports children with limited mobility using ride on adaptive toy cars with push button switches, supportive seating and communication devices to provide opportunities for children to move independently in ways that they otherwise would not be able to do on their own.

This program is a fun non-stigmatizing way for children who are not independently mobile to engage in play while experiencing therapeutic benefits, building muscle control and muscle memory and learning about their environment.
