Shelly Bhayana is currently an Endocrinologist working with AHS since 2005.  Her areas of interest include diabetes, diabetes and pregnancy, pituitary and thyroid disease.  She is also taking an interest in resident education and is currently the assistant program director for the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Calgary.  Advocacy has also been an area of interest, and she has recently taken on the role of being one of the directors of resident support through the postgraduate medical education department.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family which includes her husband and her 3 children.  In 2014 her daughter was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma that resulted in her having significant physical disability.  Through her daughter’s journey Shelly and her family have participated in a number of initiatives and programs through Kids Cancer Care, CP Kids, Bloom Wellness Collective and disability programs through the University of Calgary. These experiences have been inspiring for her and she hopes she can bring her medical and personal experience to help others further through the Variety Children’s Charity of Alberta.
